1) what
you want to appear in the From field on your email messages, and
2) the email address you want replies sent to. You can see the value
of the From field. Without putting your name or company in that field,
no one knows it's you. With the cryptic email addresses many people
are forced to use, you stand a very real chance of having your email
deleted because they don't recognize who it's from.
As for
the reply to address, you want this to be your name at your domain.
Do you have to give up your AOL account? No. All you need to do is set
up an email forwarding account on your web host (the service that hosts
your web site). Then, when email comes to you@yourdomain, it will be
automatically forwarded to your AOL account. When you reply to a message,
the reply to address will also show as you@yourdomain.com. No one will
be the wiser that you're really using AOL (or Hotmail, Yahoo, etc)
So stop
advertising for your email company. Instead, use your address and build
that name recognition. Let people know who you are!
